It is with great sadness that we report the death of Professor Emeritus Astra Zarina, founder of NIAUSI, on August 31, 2008.   

Civita di Bagnoregio was named to the World Monuments Watch List, 2006.  Click here for the press release. In May 2008, NIAUSI with the World Monuments Fund and several Italian organizations conducted an international symposium on the geologic and cultural sustainability of the Italian Tuff Towns.  Local and international experts and support professionals were hosted by Astra Zarina and Tony Heywood,  NIAUSI, the World Monuments Fund, and the Civitonici (residents of Civita).  Stay tuned for the full report from the WMF...
