The Fellowship Programs are central to NIAUSI's mission. Italy's key role in the development of Western culture provides a singular setting for recipients to participate in this rich tradition by studying continuity and change in Italian architecture, culture, art, and history. In turn, we believe the professional growth our Fellows experience during their time in Italy positively influences the Pacific Northwest’s built environment.

For 2012, NIAUSI has recently awarded the Astra Zarina two month fellowship, named in honor of the late Professor Astra Zarina, plus two one month fellowships. These fellowship residencies are located at NIAUSI's facilities in Civita di Bagnoregio, Italy, a unique and rustic hill town near Orvieto, approximately 100 kilometers north of Rome.  NIAUSI will be announcing the opening of the 2013 Fellowship application period in Summer 2012.

NIAUSI UW Rome Center Fellowship for 2012: In recognition of the 25th anniversary of the founding of the University of Washington Rome Center, in 2011, NIAUSI awarded our first fellowship to a student alumnus of the programs held at the Rome Center. Based on the success of that program, NIAUSI is now accepting applications for the 2012 Fellowship, open to all alumni of any of the programs that have been offered through the UW Rome Center.

This special Fellowship is open only to those Rome Center student alumni who are currently enrolled in a university or who have graduated on or after April 1, 2010.  Those who have graduated prior to April 1, 2010 are potentially eligible for NIAUSI's (separate) professional Fellowships.

A thirty-day residency at NIAUSI's facilities in Italy will be provided for the selected 2012 NIAUSI UW Rome Center Fellowship.  This residency must be between March 15, 2012 and March 15, 2013, at a mutually agreeable residency period.  However, no stipend, travel allowance or other cash award is part of this fellowship.

For more information about this student fellowship and to receive an application packet via email, please send us an email at: fellowships@niausi.comApplications are due no later than February 15, 2012.

Since 1985, NIAUSI has awarded more than 45 travel Fellowships and will continue to build this important professional, academic, and intercultural link between the Pacific Northwest and Italy.
